What do I do if my mortgage company pays my taxes and I received an original tax bill?

When your mortgage company pays your taxes you should always receive a copy of the tax bill that has "This Is Not a Bill for Advice Only" printed on it in red. If this is the bill that you have then your tax account is coded with a mortgage company. If you received an original bill without the advice phrase on it the first thing that you should do is call your mortgage company to see if they would like you to send them the bill.

Notifying the Tax Collector

Many mortgage companies submit their payments to the Tax Collector using computer files and no longer require the receipt of the actual tax bill. If this is the case with your mortgage company then you may retain the bill for your reference and for income tax purposes. If your mortgage company requires the receipt of the tax bill then you must notify the Tax Collector in writing to add the bank to our records for future billing and forward the bill to your mortgage company. You may fax your mortgage company addition request to 732-505-1886.

The request must contain:

  • The block and lot number of the property
  • Your mailing address
  • The bank name and address
  • The signature of the owner
