ATTENTION PET OWNERSIn an effort to curb a spreading rabies epidemic and safeguard your pet, the local Board of Health requires all cat and dog owners to have their pets licensed and vaccinated against rabies and obtain a license. A door-to-door Animal Census is conducted annually, in accordance with State Law. The term for Dog licenses is January to December 31st. The cost is fifteen (15) dollars for a spayed/neutered dog and twenty (20) dollars, if not spayed or neutered. A late fee of five (5) dollars plus the cost of license, begins in February and increases to ten (10) dollars plus the cost of the license in March. Late Fees are set by Ordinance and cannot be waived. Proof of a rabies vaccination that is valid through November 1st of the current licensing year and written proof of spaying or neutering, signed by the veterinarian, are required. Late fees apply to renewal licenses, not new licenses. Toms River Township sponsors a free Rabies Clinic each year in January. The date will be listed under the “Announcements” section each year.

DOG LICENSES
It is mandatory that all dogs age seven (7) months or older be licensed each year in our municipality. Dog Licenses must be purchased during the month of JANUARY each year. Proof of a valid rabies shot is required to obtain a license.
RABIES SHOT INFORMATIONThe pet owner must supply a rabies vaccination certificate signed by a licensed Veterinarian indicating that the animals duration of immunity extends throughout the first ten (10) months of the licensing period. Animals with a duration of immunity that expires prior to the 10-month cut-off point, must receive a booster shot in order to obtain a license. Therefore rabies shots which expire prior to November 1st of the current licensing year will not be accepted. The rabies shot must be valid until AFTER NOVEMBER 1st of the license year. Completed requests, with all proper documentation enclosed, must be postmarked no later than January 31st or late fees must be included with the cost of license. *All information sent to us by mail will be returned with your license. If purchasing in person: If paying in cash, please have exact amount, or you may pay by check. Please include proper documentation* with your request or it will be returned to you as incomplete. All incomplete requests must be postmarked by JUNE 30th or late fees will apply. *All information sent to us by mail will be returned with your license. RETAIL FOOD-HANDLING LICENSESRetail Food Establishment licenses are issued each year, pursuant to Chapter 534 and 537 of the “Code of the Township of Toms River, NJ.” Follow link to Municipal Code, for more information: MUNICIPAL CODE-CHAPT. 534 Applications must be submitted in March of each year. There is a $50.00 application fee. All Retail food businesses, Mobile Vendors and Non-profit food vendors must be inspected by Ocean County Health Department, prior to applying for a Retail Food Establishment License. Food and beverage vending machines require a license, pursuant to Chapter 531 of the “Code of the Township of Toms River, NJ.” Please follow the link below to review these regulations and/or download application: The application is available in the downloads secion.
Class A: Includes any vending machine that dispenses readily perishable food, either in bulk or package, or nonalcoholic beverages in bulk. Class B: Includes any vending machine not classified as a Class A machine that dispenses nonperishable food or nonalcoholic beverages in original containers or ice.
