While at least ½ of the necessary easements have been signed, there are a few holdout property owners and/or organizations who have not signed on for the Dune Restoration project provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Mayor Tom Kelaher said, “With hurricane season upon us, the dune restoration project is on the forefront of our priorities. For those Homeowner Associations that have not signed the easements, we are encouraging them to step up and sign the documents before we begin the eminent domain process. Since these Associations will not be getting the financial windfall they were hoping for, we are expecting a handful of groups to willingly comply, thus speeding up the dune restoration process.”
Most importantly, beginning in September, Toms River is planning a project that will reinforce the dune areas in the locations where the township has signed easements. Only those property owners who have signed easements can benefit from this interim project.
