Ethan Wojdyla is a sweet 5 year old who, after adopting a cat from our shelter decided to collect donations in lieu of gifts for his 5th birthday. He and his parents, Kathleen & Derek Wojdyla visited our shelter on 8/16/12 to deliver the huge amount of food, toys, blankets and cash donations which they collected for Ethan's birthday.Ethan's Story
One day at recess Reagan Czech and her friend, Hailey Montanile, were discussing volunteering at an animal shelter. Since they discovered they were not old enough to volunteer, they came up with another idea to make money for the shelter. They asked their school principal, Mr. Pallen, at West Dover Elementary if it would be possible to sell bracelets. They told him they were going to make the bracelets to raise money for the Toms River Animal Facility. He approved the idea. The girls decided they would need more help making the amount of bracelets they needed, so they asked Simone Briscoe.
They knew there were about 500 kids in their school and they would need about 400 bracelets. They went to work immediately. They had only 5 days to get everything done and ready for the sale. They all worked whenever they had spare time. They made a total of 378 bracelets and were ready for sales to begin on Monday.
They sold 125 bracelets every day! People bought anywhere from 1 to 20 bracelets. Some people just donated money. When they got to the last day of the sale, every bracelet was sold out. They made a total of $412.00.
Reagan, Hailey and Simone are truly an inspiration and outstanding role models for all kids their age! The staff and animals at the shelter greatly appreciate their efforts!
This year the Animal Shelter was once again humbled and honored by the generosity of an outstanding young lady, Jillian McLaughlin, who brought donations of food, toys and supplies for the animals at the shelter. Jillian has been doing this since her second birthday in October, 2005. She is now 9 years old and has become somewhat of a celebrity at the shelter. Every year she unselfishly has collected donations for the shelter in place of receiving birthday gifts on her birthday.
Jillian McLaughlin is truly an inspiration to other young people. Her generosity is very much appreciated by the Animal Shelter’s staff and well as all the animals at the shelter and they all look forward to her visit every year! Sincere thanks and appreciation are wished to Jillian!!
In October we had the extreme pleasure to accept a donation of $40 from a group of youngsters who ran a lemonade stand to raise money for the Animal Shelter. Their names are: Kaitlyn Beard, Austin Beard, Zachary Kochinski, Brianna Weltner, Savannah Gowdy. They are all 3rd and 4th graders at West Dover Elementary and Beachwood Elementary.
The Beard family chose the Toms River Animal Shelter because they adopted two cats from the shelter. The kids worked hard all day to make the $40.00 donation. They are all a true inspiration to young people their age. From all the staff and of course, the animals at the shelter, a big THANK YOU!!! It is the generosity of people like them that help the staff at the animal shelter give the best care to the animals!!
Please share these pictures with everyone at the animal facility. As you can see Roofus is very content in his new home. Within the first few hours of being in his new home he claimed the spot in front of the fire place as his own. We just adore him, he is so precious. We visited the vet today for his checkup, he recieved vaccinations (like a champ!), and is scheduled to be neutered. The vet recommended we wait two weeks before the surgery in hopes we can fatten him up some before the procedure. I don't see any problems with that at all, he comes running when the dog food/treat cabinet door opens. It hard to believe he has only been with us since yesterday. He is so comfortable and well behaved.
After exploring the property and house he settled in and became very much part of our family. Honestly, it's as if he was supposed to be here all along. Roofus and Shantie (our german shepard) are getting along so well that we only separated them during the night, mostly to confirm what my husband had suspected all along that Roofus is house broken. After the vet today we had one more stop to make, PetSmart. Michelle, Mark, and Roofus picked out his bed, toys, treats, and collar. In the pictures you can see Roofus really enjoys his bed. We can't thank you enough for bringing us together. He is amazing! Roofus is home!
