Office Hours:

Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m

Overview:

The Public Works Department is responsible for the collection of garbage, recycling and the maintenance of public roadways and storm drains. A fleet of trucks and equipment maintained at the Public Works garage enables us to provide these services. Public Works also has a Clean Community division funded through the State of New Jersey to help keep the roadsides clean. Other services include street sign installation, snow plowing, paving, leaf collection, brush collection, repair of township bulkheads and emergency response within the Township of Toms River.

Toms River Township Recycling Convenience Center

Monday through Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Recycling Convenience Center usage is limited to two times per month, per residence.

The Recycling Convenience Center is closed Sundays and the following holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Lincoln's Birthday, President's Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Columbus Day, Election Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Public Works will be collecting sanitation and recycling on Independence Day and Labor Day due to twice-a-week collections.

Township residents, showing proof of residency, may use the Toms River Township Recycling Convenience Center on Church Road to dispose of excess garbage and trash, deposit recyclable materials and obtain free wood chips and leaf mulch. Only vehicles less than 8,000 lbs. and no larger than a pickup trucks or commercial vehicles are permitted. Residents are allowed two load/visit per month unless you are dropping off leaves, brush, tree trimmings or picking up mulch or wood chips.

New Policy: Beginning Monday, May 4, 2009, residents will be permitted to bring not more than two 35-gallon containers of construction/demolition debris to the yard per visit. This debris must be placed in containers so the quantity of material can be readily identified by the yard attendants. If such debris is not containerized, it will not be accepted. This policy is designed to prevent large quantities of contractor-generated debris from being accepted by the township and paid for by taxpayer dollars.

The township will not provide curbside pick up of construction/demolition debris.

Should residents, contractors or licensed trash hauling companies have larger quantities of construction/demolition debris to dispose of, it must be brought to an approved landfill such as the Ocean County Landfil, Route 70 in Manchester.
